El primero de una familia de ocho hermanos, Juan Gabriel naci\u00f3 el d\u00eda de la Epifan\u00eda, 6 de enero de 1802, en la aldea de Puech, parroquia de Montgesty, di\u00f3cesis de Cahors.\u00a0 Dos de sus hermanos entraron en la Congregaci\u00f3n de la Misi\u00f3n; una hermana fue Hija de la Caridad y otra, religiosa carmelita.\u00a0<\/p>

Comienza el Seminario Interno en Montauban en diciembre de 1818. En septiembre de 1826 recibe la ordenaci\u00f3n sacerdotal. Inmediatamente es destinado como profesor y moderador al Seminario Mayor de San Floro. Poco m\u00e1s tarde se le encomienda la direcci\u00f3n del Seminario Interno de la congregaci\u00f3n en Par\u00eds. Pero \u00e9l insiste una y otra vez en ser enviado a misiones, tras los pasos de San Francisco Regis Clet.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Por fin, en 1835 es destinado a China continental y el 29 de agosto desembarca en Macao.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0Durante cinco a\u00f1os trabaja infatigablemente en la misi\u00f3n de China, en medio de dificultades y persecuciones, hasta que es llevado al martirio el 11 de septiembre de 1840, delatado por uno de sus fieles. Muere en Uchanf\u00fa. Se le concedi\u00f3 la gracia de \u00abparticipar de manera singular en el misterio de la Cruz\u00bb. Su arresto, su juicio y su condena reproducen la dolorosa pasi\u00f3n de Cristo. Muri\u00f3 en la cruz como El.\u00a0 Su piedad profunda, alimentada de vida inocente y pendiente, el celo apost\u00f3lico por la salvaci\u00f3n de los hombres y el deseo sincero de asemejarse a Jesucristo le han valido el sobrenombre de \u201cOtro Cristo\u201d.\u00a0 Dec\u00eda el santo: \u201cNo podemos alcanzar la salvaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s que conform\u00e1ndonos a Jesucristo. \u201cCuando hayamos muerto, no se nos preguntar\u00e1 si hemos sido sabios, si hemos desempe\u00f1ado cargos distinguidos, si hemos producido una buena impresi\u00f3n en el mundo; se nos preguntar\u00e1 si nos preocupamos de comprender a Jesucristo e imitarle\u201d.<\/p>

Fue beatificado el 10 de noviembre de 1889 por el Papa Le\u00f3n XIII y el 2 de junio de 1996 fue canonizado por el Papa Juan Pablo II. Su fiesta lit\u00fargica se celebra el 11 de septiembre. Muchos miembros de nuestra Familia Vicenciana, rezan diariamente esta oraci\u00f3n compuesta por el santo misionero:<\/p>

\u00a1Oh mi Salvador divino! Por tu omnipotencia, por tu misericordia infinita, haz que yo pueda cambiar y transformarme en Ti; que mis manos sean tus manos y mi lengua tu lengua; que mi cuerpo y mis sentidos no sirvan sino para tu gloria. Pero ante todo, transforma mi alma y todas sus potencias: que mi memoria, mi inteligencia, mi voluntad, sean como tu memoria, tu inteligencia, tu voluntad; que mis actos y mis sentimientos sean como los tuyos. Y as\u00ed como el Padre dijo de Ti: \u00a1\u201cYo te he engendrado hoy\u201d, lo pueda decir tambi\u00e9n de m\u00ed, y a\u00fan a\u00f1adir: \u201ceres mi hijo amado en quien me complazco\u201d!
